You find them almost everywhere. At a job site, by the road. Some even have them holding up certain household appliances because it’s cheaper than other alternatives. But just because you have to use cinder blocks doesn’t mean it has to look trashy or low budget. It can actually look really good with a little thought and creativity. A lot of people have come up with different cinder block uses so here’s seven cool do it yourself ideas on how to use those concrete blocks to your advantage!
1.) Cinder Block Fire Pit

This one is a no brainer! It’s light on the wallet and easy to remove if you need to relocate it for some reason. Simply dig a hole, use some cinder blocks as the base and put bricks on top. Simple, cheap and you have a fire pit to entertain family and friends.
2.) Cinder Block Outdoor Bench

Why buy an expensive wood or metal bench when you can acquire a couple of cinder blocks, wood beams and put cushions on top to be comfortable. It looks good, it’s cheap and gives you a comfortable place to sit outdoors.
3.) Build A BBQ Pit

Here’s another really good idea. You could fork over a lot of cash for custom master rotisserie BBQ grill or you can use cinder blocks to make a cheap alternative that can do the same job just fine. With that said, you may want to check with your local authorities to make sure it’s okay and up to code.
4.) Use Cement Blocks to Stack Firewood

Now here’s an idea so simple, you’ll hit yourself for not thinking of it first. You need only a couple of cinder blocks and four 2x4s. Simply set the boards at an angle and there you have it. Easy-peasy, right? Its cheap storage and very practical for those who have fireplaces.
5.) Cinder Blocks Instead of Bed Springs

If you’re really in a money crunch, you can always get cinder blocks, put a mattress on top and you have a simple bed. This can be a cheap alternative and you can use the block holes for easy storage. Also, if you’re looking for simple living…this could work out for you.
6.) Cinder Block Shelves

Why buy expensive wooden shelves when you can use concrete blocks as a cheap alternative? All you need to do is simply stack the blocks the way you want and set your items inside. If you don’t like grey, you can always paint them to give your room some more ‘pop.’ (Be careful if you have small children. They shouldn’t climb on it for their safety!)
7.) Wine Cellar Storage
If you have an expensive wine tasting hobby and you’re looking for a cheap way to store all your vintage…why not use concrete blocks? It’s cheap, you stack them on top of one another and keep them in a cold atmosphere. As you acquire more bottles, you can purchase more storage space.
