It’s that time of year again when shoppers all across the country get up before dawn and join the rush to get the greatest deals for Christmas gifts. Unfortunately, not everyone is their “chipper” or happy self when going out and sometimes….well, things can happen. Several staff members at Toolbarn also like to shop on Black Friday and they have some tips for your Black Friday experience.
Shopping Tip #1: RESEARCH, PLAN, RINSE, REPEAT!!!!!

Before going out and before looking for all the great deals at all the big box stores in your local town, make sure you take some time to research and plan what stores have the best deals and know the layout of the store you’re going to. A lot of people like to go out “blind” and often have no idea what they’re looking for. While that may soothe the soul of a free spirit, chances are you want to make sure you find the best deals before they’re gone.
Take some time to check the ads and make sure you go after the deals you’re looking for. Also, if you can, come up with a map and a timeframe if you’re traveling from store to store. It’s good to have a schedule, but do realize that long lines could put a kink in those plans. If you plan, you’re patient and thoughtful…you’ll be successful in your holiday shopping experience.
Shopping Tip #2: Consolidate Your Shopping Trips

When you’re shopping in a store, it’s a good idea to try to get as many items on your Christmas List in that store if you can. It’s also inevitable that goods will sell out. If you’re unable to get what you want, it’s a good idea to have a substitute in mind so you don’t leave empty-handed. You can also look online or other alternatives if you need a certain gift by Christmas-time.
Shopping Tip #3: Take Snacks and Water on Your Trip

Meals, snacks and water are necessity if you’re heading out on a shopping expedition. It’s easy to get excited about heading out, but if you forget some bottled water…it could be a while if you’re standing in a long line. If you don’t eat or drink anything, you’ll lose energy and could become irritable. If you’re irritable, then you have a better chance blowing up at someone. You don’t want that to happen, so take food and water with you. Trust us, you’ll thank us later.
Shopping Tip #4: Hit the Shops with Confidence

Once the big day arrives, whatever you do…DON’T SLEEP IN!!! If you do, you’ll kick yourself over it later. Also, remember never to leave your basket unattended. Nothing is worse than having someone swipe your item when you’re not pay attention.
Most people are lined up outside the stores EARLY in the morning, so you don’t want to get left out. When you do get up, make sure you bring your “game” face. You want to look confident when you’re shopping with others looking for the same stuff you are. Assert yourself politely, but don’t push it if other shoppers give grief. Remember, bargains aren’t worth bruises…or your life.
Shopping Tip #5: Keep Your Sanity

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment, but remember with so much happening around you…it’s just shopping. This shouldn’t be a life or death struggle. If you find yourself hot under the collar, count to 10 or take a break. If you feel yourself becoming so angry, you want to hit someone…go home. No deal is worth going to jail for.
Hopefully, these five quick tips will give you some perspective and give you and edge when the big day comes. Remember, keep your head and happy shopping!
